At a July 24 special meeting, State Regents’ Chair Dennis Casey appointed a committee to lead a national search for the next Chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, following Chancellor Allison Garrett’s recent announcement of her intent to retire by January 2025. Casey, Regent Jeffrey W. Hickman, Regent Steven W. Taylor, and Regent Courtney Warmington will serve on the State Regents’ Chancellor Search Committee.
During the meeting, the State Regents also approved a comprehensive position profile outlining the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities, characteristics, and qualifications sought in the next Chancellor. This profile will guide the selection process and will be advertised in a variety of national higher education publications to attract a broad candidate pool.
“Finding the next Chancellor of Oklahoma public higher education is a responsibility we take very seriously,” said Casey. “The Chancellor serves as the chief executive officer, overseeing Oklahoma’s coordinated system of 25 public colleges and universities, and plays a critical role in executing the priorities outlined in our strategic plan, Blueprint 2030. We seek an innovative, strategic and visionary leader who can build on the progress we’ve made, particularly in aligning higher education with the workforce needs of our state.”
More information regarding the Chancellor search is available on the State Regents’ website at https://px-dev.okhighered.org/state-system/chancellor-search/. For optimal consideration, application materials should be received by Aug. 31, 2024. Interested candidates should submit a current curriculum vitae/resume, a cover letter describing their interest in and qualifications for the position, and a list of references to Dr. Kylie Smith, Vice Chancellor of Administration, at ksmith@osrhe.edu.
