The Business and Employer Advisory Council (BEAC) was created by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) in 2024, as part of its strategic plan, Blueprint 2030. The BEAC serves as a key advisory body to the OSRHE, providing expertise and insights to support the development of a skilled workforce that meets the needs of Oklahoma’s economy.
Council Purpose and Function
The BEAC serves as a critical resource, offering valuable perspectives from business leaders across diverse industries. Council members contribute their knowledge, expertise and connections to local, national and international resources and organizations, helping to shape workforce development initiatives and policies that support the state's long-term economic growth and prosperity.
Key Functions
- Provide Specialized Information, Skills, and Experience
The BEAC offers specialized expertise and guidance on workforce development, addressing current and future industry needs. Members will advise on how higher education and training programs can be designed to meet the critical workforce demands of Oklahoma's diverse industries, directly contributing to the state's economic success. - Provide Guidance and Oversight
With representation from various industries, the BEAC provides strategic insights into the workforce needs and trends affecting Oklahoma. The BEAC will help identify innovative solutions and best practices to address critical workforce challenges. A regular employer summit will be convened to leverage the council's collective knowledge and to explore strategies for meeting these needs. Members may also be asked to provide guidance on selecting speakers or topics of interest for OSRHE events. - Advocate for Higher Education
BEAC members are integral to advocating for policies and legislative actions that support higher education in Oklahoma. Council members will use their networks and industry expertise to help OSRHE staff and other stakeholders understand the broader trends and challenges facing Oklahoma’s workforce. Members may also be asked to assist in promoting specific higher education policies or initiatives. - Membership
Membership in the BEAC is by invitation only. Members are expected to serve for a minimum of one full calendar year. When a member's term concludes, the BEAC may seek advice from outgoing members regarding potential replacements who could represent their respective industries. Membership is designed to reflect a diverse range of industries critical to Oklahoma’s economy, ensuring broad representation of business interests.
